This year from late February there has been an influx of Common (Red) Crossbills into south Hokkaido. I have to say these are my favourite small birds, I can watch them for hours as they clamber around the conifers like little parrots, warbling away.
Difficult to photograph them, at least it is for the likes of me. Lighting is a big problem sometimes as are the ever changing backgrounds meaning I'm always fiddling with the camera controls.....I haven't quite cracked it yet. Last year the weather was brighter and the Crossbills more co-operative.
Most shots only slightly cropped, all taken with a 400D and 100-400L. Not the greatest Crossbill shots in the world but I had fun taking them.
This isn't the sharpest shot but I love the expression on its face.....
