I just got back from Rowe Sanctuary in Nebraska where I met up with another POTN'er to stay in the photo blinds. The weather was great when we arrived, but by the second night it was extremely windy. In spite of the weather, I managed to get some photos. It was a great experience and very cool to see thousands of cranes (and spend the night with them!)

Flyby:

Finally, some decent light! This was the second morning. It was extremely windy (50+ mph gusts) and the cranes were very jittery.

Excellent series. I'll have to try out a duck blind one of these days and see what happens.

What a brilliant adventure, Liz, and very much worth it. Great shots.

Gotta admire your willingness to rough it for the sake of your art. I just love the sunset and the one lone crane in such beautiful light. I never knew that sanctuaries had blinds set up. I'll need to look into that.

Wow Liz very awesome, that blind is smaller than I thought it would be . I can only imagine the sights and sounds there. Excellent shots despite the adverse weather .

Thanks all, it was fun and I'd definitely do it again. Maybe spend one night in the blind, and another more out in the field. The blind is good but you're limited to that one spot when you're in the blind. There are some other places around the area where it might be fun to explore. Here are a couple from inside the blind so you can imagine the full experience.

This is me and as usual I have a mascot along for good luck. It was actually much warmer than I anticipated and I hadn't brought along a lot of warm weather clothing!

Take a wild guess what the bucket is for. My little friend is demonstrating. ;) That part turned out not to be nearly as traumatic as I had made it out to be.

Great series Liz, I would have spent a week in that blind just for the "Sunset Cranes," shot. It is beautiful.
