Hmm, a few extra iso settings were added. But will isos 3200, 6400, and 12800 really going to be usable?

I suppose the HDMI port makes sense.

So I guess the question is...why get a 50D when this new camera does 98% of what the 50D does, plus video?

Perhaps a silly question... The 50D has the Digic IV engine.. is it possible that Canon might release a firmware update to add video capabilities?

It's just that it doesn't make sense to me that a Rebel does video and the 50D doesn't.

I was about to buy a 50D, but now I really don't know what to do.

I hate my life. I wonder how much it is. All I wanted to add to my XSi was live video and now...now they have it. LAME

I feel the same, you're not alone.

I like it a lot, If I had the money too I would, especially if it had the articulating lcd that was rumored. The specs are awesome and it's a really sweet camera, but not enough for me to shell out 899/799 even though it's a stellar price...plus I just bought my XSi back in September.

I don't see how they can do that? It's near identical to a 50D, it's even got ISO 3200, expandable to 12800! It's a 50D in a smaller body, with an inferior AF system (in terms of cross type sensors, IIRC) and slower FPS rate! I guess it's just the way it's going. You pay more for the better built body of the 50D, even though it's the same specs pretty much.

I struggle with the video thing. I bought a DSLR to take pictures, if I wanted video I'd buy a camcorder. I personally hope that this is not the way for all DSLR's to go - I'd rather they spent their efforts on better photography wizardry than cramming a video recorder in.

Just my 2p worth!

There's nothing really being "crammed in."

All they're doing is providing a conduit by which you can record Live View.

Now, if you want to debate the merits of Live View... ;)

It has always been like that. Rebel line = lots of bang for the buck. Was true with the Xti 30D, Xsi 40D and now T1i 50D.

If you like better ergonomics, faster fps, better viewfinder, better AF etc...you will get a 40D or 50D. Same reason why someone will buy a 1dMkIII over a 50D.

If video is a must for you then T1i :)

Well, they haven't really explained how well it handles noise through the all the ISO ranges very well. Is it as good as a 40D, which in my opinion is better than a 50D. IQ is king.

By the way, there is no articulating screen:
