A lot of people seem to be comparing it to the 50D, but If i compare it to my XTI with only 3fps and 10mp and a horible view finder... the T1i is a monster compared to this camera.

Is the viewfinder supposed to be that much better? It's still a pentamirror, isn't it?

Actually it seems more like a hardware limitation. Taken from http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/T1I/T1IA.HTM (external link) :

"whereas the 50D's sensor has a four-channel readout, the Rebel T1i's sensor uses a 2-channel readout, which means that the image data will come off the T1i's sensor more slowly"

I'd imagine that's the reason 1080p shoots only at 20 fps and continuous shooting is 3.x fps instead of 6.x fps.

AH! Thanks for pointing that out.

720 at 30 fps seems just fine for me....

can someone answer something for me though....aren't blu-ray movies 1080 at 24fps? why then is 20fps not that great..if it's only 4fps less..or is there some aspect i'm not taking into consideration.

i've seen 720/1080 comparison videos from the t1i and the 1080/20 seems slightly jerky

Film movie film runs at 24 frames per second. That was decided to be the nominal rate for film so action on the screen looked smooth. TV screens use 30 frames per second, and video for viewing on your monitor are best seen at 30fps. It has something to do with refresh rates of CRT and LCD screen, CRT's especially, with their phosphor latency. CRT's refresh at 30fps, to over write the line before, otherwise you would see a lot of ghosting. 20 frames a second is a bit slow and you can see some blurring in stuff like peoples legs when they walk, or the arm of the conductor at the orchestra. :)

Do you have a source for that? All the rebels so far have used a pentamirror, and I've seen no-one yet claim this has a pentaprism. According to the dpreview preview "The 500D inherits the 450D's viewfinder, which is one of the better pentamirror finders out there."

Also look at the weight of the 50D in that ad. 1.85kg??? According to Canon it should be 730g. The other two are correct though.

I wouldn't rely on BB for info.

Any info on how many clicks the shutter is rated at? Are the other Rebels still at 50K?

I don't think they even published a shutter life for the XSi, but most people assumed it would be around 50K same as the others in the Rebel line.

Gotta love that BB price for the 50D. $1799? I want some of what they're smoking!
