Male Pileated Woodpecker "building" a nest

Wow can that Pileated Woodpecker throw the wood chips. Wonderful series also. I see nothing wrong with the branch in the background, as it is far enough oof to not be any real bother.

they are louder than normal woodpeckers that is for sure and thanks for the compliment

Wow, great shots of this giant woody. I have seen them here, but they are pretty rare. I do see more of their destruction though. Doesn't take them long to destroy a stand of oaks. :)

Nest Update: During some high winds last week the top of the tree which the nest was a part of was toppled :(

Here is a picture that sorta gives a birds eye view of the inside of the nest....if you look in the first post at picture 4 you will see at the bottom right of the trunk a small branch that is shooting off to the right so that you can try and figure otu where the nest hole was...that is the same small branch that is at the bottom of this picture that is also shooting off and down to the right.
