Elinchrom D-4 Light or the Calumet Genesis 400 NEED TO DECIDE!? help

iv been looking everywhere and have only seen comparisions to AB of both lights. right now iv decided i want to go with either the Elinchrom or the Calumet but cant decide leaning more twards elinchrom. but would like some more knowledge from people who have one or another so your replys are greatly appreciated.

they both have digital controls.
both are great for expanding on modifiers.
seems to be same build quality
both have fans
syncs

does the elinchrom have a cycle time notifier?

i just dont know what to DO! please HELP! cause TAX returns are COMMING! im going to mostly be using it for high fashion stuff. so mostly a BD and maybe the ocasional Octo. and im aware of the elinchrom and weight

I think your leaning towards the D-Lites is wise. As good as the Genesis lights are, the D-Lites are better. The digital adjustments of 1/10 of a stop on the D-Lites actually correspond to that power setting, which is not the case with the Genesis lights - the Genesis are consistent at each power setting, but the power setting you see on the display is not necessarily the power that the flash will fire at. (In other words - every time you set that power, the flash will fire at the same power as it always does at that setting, but it does not necessarily mean that each 1/10 of a stop adjustment is an actual change of 1/10 of a stop. The power steps are not linear like they are on the DLites and better quality flashes. Hope that makes sense )

I couldn't agree more Rudi. The D-Lite proves to be very accurate throughout most of the power range. The Genesis that I tested, while consistent (as you mentioned), was not accurate and parts of the range would show .7 stop change when the readout indicated there was a full stop of change. For that reason my vote goes to the Elinchrom D-Lite.

ya i was reading alot of your testing TMR and was leaning, but im sure there are people who swear by the Calumet and would like to hear there side. but im still about 75% sure about the elinchrom.

also im looking on finding a beauty dish with a grid and sock for the D light know of any?

There's no question about the fact that the Genesis strobes are excellent and I know many owners that swear by them. It doesn't change the numbers but they are excellent entry level strobes and the compatibility with Elinchrom accessories and modifiers is a plus. You can't go wrong with D-Lite's or Genesis strobes, that's for sure.

Here is the Speedotron 22" beauty dish with the Kacey grid mounted to a D-Lite 4. Works great!

Dave (tetrode) actually created the modification and I followed up with this thread, which contains information from Dave and myself about the mod and what's involved. Very simple stuff.

Nope. If it would work with no modification we wouldn't have done it.
The Speedotron has a Speedotron mount and is absolutely not compatible with Elinchrom. The mod must be done.

I love love love my D-Lite 4's. Just got a third one!

Pretty much made up my mind! im going to have to get one. going to head to calumet to pick one up since its pretty much local. going to go ahead and get.

Elinchrom Adapter
Kacey Grid
and somwhere find a sock!
