The reason why many of use went with the Kacey grid and opted to buy separately is because Jerry offers a great price the grid and bag combo. The bag is excellent and if you're looking for a way to store or transport the dish and grid together you simply can't beat his product and bundle.

There's no question about the fact that the Genesis strobes are excellent and I know many owners that swear by them. It doesn't change the numbers but they are excellent entry level strobes and the compatibility with Elinchrom accessories and modifiers is a plus. You can't go wrong with D-Lite's or Genesis strobes, that's for sure.

Here is the Speedotron 22" beauty dish with the Kacey grid mounted to a D-Lite 4. Works great!

Just got my Speedotron 22" for my elinchrom! Can't wait to give it a try this weekend.

Gonna revive this thread..... do the D-Lites ever go on sale regularly like Genesis strobes do? I'm leaning toward getting the D-Lites, but would obviously be up for saving some cash if there is a normal yearly sale time....

Also, is does jerry's BD have an adapter for elinchrom lights? Is there a benefit to getting the Speedo over his dish?

Short answers...

No, Elinchrom never has sales :(
Yes, Jerry can configure the dish for you.
No benefit. If I were buying again, I'd probably get Jerry's dish.

Once in a blue moon the prices fluctuate a bit but it's not like the Genesis lights that regularly go on sale.

Thanks for the info. honestly, its worth the premium to me to have the linear power curve, plus out of the box support for all of elinchrom's modifiers.... seeing $199 for a 400ws strobe around christmas-time is hard to pass up though.

Gotta keep my eyes on the prize. :-P

Definitely gonna get Jerry's dish... handsome piece of equipment and the price is DEFINITELY right. :-)

Yeah they seem to go on sale every other month.

Adorama had the DLite4 at $295 this time last week, I picked one up and used it with the Kacey dish last weekend.
Jerry put the Chimera adaptor on my 22" Kacey dish, it puts the bulb in the correct loaction.
They work well, for what little I know.

can you post pic of your Kacey setup b/c I'd like to see how much a difference the Chimera makes. May need to get the Chimera adapter :)

It makes a big difference Peter. I use a Chimera Quick Release speed ring that has the same insert and when I mount it to the Elinchrom's the flash tube is much further forward than with other inserts... and I've tried many. :D
