Hello all, again lol.
I am bless here lately being able to sell my old camera equipment and other thing I no longer need to build a deadly arsenal of lenses. Well I am selling my enclosed trailer tomorrow and that will put my budget back up there around 2200.00.
As some of know I want a great portrait lens but now that I am lucky enough to have the funds I am wondering if the 85L is what I really want when I can buy so may other lenses with that money. But I know myself all to well and I know I will always have my eye on the prize. It will be easy enough to get those other 400.00 range lenses as I go but I am sure I will not have this kind of fundage dropped in my lap again any time soon.
So you guys help me decide,
1 really, really, good L prime or several other good primes?
I think the 85L is going around 1800.00 new :( Will it really be worth it? It looks like that would be the number one low light, candid shot lens to go with. (my favorite thing to do but now I want to make money at it)
And I have not researched how well it takes portraits yet (the other thing I want it for).
I want to make money off this lens/lenses so I need everyone to put there two cents worth in. I have learned so much already and I really do take everyones advice here to heart.
Thank you all for your help. your input, and most of all putting up with me :)

Shew I think I caught the L bug lol, For the price of that L lens I can get the following NEW at B&H, 60mm macro, 85mm 1.8, 100mm macro, the 580exll and still have 500 for either a 35mm 1.4 or a 50mm 1.4.

Someone convince me that L lens is worth it for a starter photographer, like me, above all the other goodies I could own lol.
Please feel free to list what goodies you think fit the bill.

Thanks.

KEH has two used 85Ls for less than $1700 and their ratings are very conservative.

To be honest, I don't think it is worth it for a starter photographer. I think you would be better off buying all the other primes. And while the 85 1.8 is no 85L, it is an excellent lens. If you're going with primes I'd suggest the Sigma 30 1.4, Sigma 50/Canon 50 1.4, Canon 85 1.8, and Canon 100 2.8 (since I saw you're interested in macro). All of those are quality enough for you to make money with them if that's what you're interested in doing. I use the Sigma 50 and Canon 85 for portraits and both work great. Really, its just a personal choice I guess. I would rather have a few excellent lenses rather than one amazing lens.
