Zoombrowser / Twain upgrade?

Am currently using v 2.5 with a Pro 90 and Win ME and so far, as a relative newcomer to digital photography (6 months), haven't had any problems.
I see some folk are having problems with v 3.2 - is it worth upgrading? - if so, does it affect any of the the saved images(I do keep a back-up on a separate drive anyway) - also is the Twain upgrade USB WIAv 3.9.1 worth doing? Will I get any conflicts with the Twain driver of my Epson 1640 scanner??
