Thread name comes from the fact that the road has been closed for years. Here are a few shots from today. C&C is welcome and appreciated.

My guess would be for security concerns since it runs over a dam? Not sure though.

Beautiful location. It looks almost like a movie set, to pretty to be functional.

That I did. The vignetting is there because of the 72 to 77mm step up ring that I had to use to mount the Singh-Ray on my 35L. It didn't vignette at all with my 24-70 at 35mm, so the step up ring was the breaking point.

As for the dam being functional, it is. The Croton Dam is part of one of the main water feeds for the New York City water supply. This was my first time there and I was floored at how nice it is.

Wow, cool place!....but tough lighting. The sun's beating down on the water and It is just too hot to make out any detail. Other parts are perfectly exposed. On the flip side, the shaded hillside is too dark to make out any detail. I bet you could make an INSANE HDR shot out of this.
Composition-wise, I want to like the B&W version...I really like it, but #1 takes it. What's missing for ME in the others is the water running off the bottom of the picture. I just prefer to see the bottom of the falls as you've done in the 1st. All a matter of taste, I would crop the 1st to just above the tree line on the left to place more of an emphasis on the bridge/falls. As it is, my eyes wander upward rather than focus on the scene below. If you prefer keeping all of the sky, I would either look at making the vignetting a little more pronounced, or crop/clone it out. As is, it's distracting to my eye. Great scene though, and I'd LOVE to see this in HDR. FWIW

That's probably the bigger reason the road is closed. Great shots and location.

Great feedback and thank you for all the kind words. Scott and others, what do you think of these crops of #1?

First is a crop, taking out much of the sky. I agree that it makes the bridge a much more prominent subject

IMAGE: http://lh3.ggpht.com/_s3TWm1zNgQA/Sctv2u85CoI/AAAAAAAAA-U/t4AdfYaF0h0/s800/Duo-9971-4.jpg

Second crop takes out the dark shading on the left side of the frame and takes out much of the sky as well. I also cloned out the two pipe holes.

IMAGE: http://lh6.ggpht.com/_s3TWm1zNgQA/Sct1os0UlCI/AAAAAAAAA-o/a--E0_Lrbfg/s800/IMG_9971-Edit.jpg

Which do you folks prefer? I am pretty fond of the last crop as an image. I cannot take it in any further or I'd cut off the waterfall on the left side of the frame

The 2nd is my fave as well. Like it a lot. I hope you don't mind, but I was just curious if any of the detail in the water and shadow could be saved, so I played with them for a coupla minutes.

Great edit. Can I ask what you did? Guessing a boost in contrast and some sharpening?
