I am in the market for an adapter tube for my newly acquired (used) G3. I am on a limited budget for this and would have to wait quite a while to get a LensMate. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the adapters from CameraGear.com at this site:

http://www.camerafilters.com/pages/adaptertubesg3g5.aspx (external link)

If anyone has tried these, I would appreciate any feedback you could offer, including suggestions as to which size would work best. Is there any reason you might not want to get the 49mm? I already have some 49mm filters, but I also have 55mm and 58mm filters. I was thinking to get the 49mm adapter tube with a 49-55 step-up ring. These, along with a 49-58 step-up that I already have, would allow me to use all of my current filters and close-up diopters in all sizes. It would also allow me, with the addition of the 55mm macro ring, to adapt my Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens for macro work. Best of all, this will all cost me less than $20.00, including shipping! Sounds good but I wanted to check for any negitive comments before ordering.

Thanks for your feedback

I truly do understand what it's like to be on a budget, I do. That being said, you've bought a fine camera, try to be patient and buy the Lens Mate. They really are that much better than the others.

I agree. I chose the 49mm Lensmate after checking out the alternatives and 'listening' to the opinions of other users. I already had numerous 55 and 58 mm filters. By using two stepup rings I can easily swap from a 55 to 58 filter. The only 49mm filter I have is the Hoya ir 72.

Does LensMate make a 49mm? I only see 52mm and 58mm on the Website.

The 49mm Lensmate was for the G1 & G2, if memory serves. I choose the 52mm, because they're cheaper and smaller. The larger 58mm can block the autofocus sensor and flash. You can use stepping rings to make all things fit. The 52mm filters and lens adapters were so reasonable compared to my SLR's 72mm & 77mm filters, that I hardly flinched! You need to take stock of what you have, what you want, and what is most cost affective for you. Look at the samples pages at Lensmate, they may help decide what direction you want to go
