Some of my first 40d portraits

Casually snapped during the beginning of class (My college has seminar classes only), and I'd love your criticism. I just upgraded from a 350d and tamron 17-50 to a 40d and 17-55 f/2.8 IS. I'm loving the autofocus, sharpness, and fps. Anyway, these were snapped during class. They aren't riveting, but I enjoy them, though I'm quite biased. Do you all like them at all? Dislike them? Why? How can I make them better? Only PP is cropping, adding a little contrast and sharpening.

The last two are compositionally better... the white balance is off in all of them. They do appear to be casual snapshots, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but you might try and at least get an angle that provides for a more flattering shot. find number three to be most unflattering to your subject. Still if you do a little more sharpening and fix the wb/adjust the colour, these might turn out ok. Enjoy that new camera--it's quite the step up from what you were using.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure how to get a good white balance yet. These were shot raw so I chose the white balance, but I can't tell what makes it off. What do you mean adjust the color?

Have you any programs dealing with processing pics? Some should have come with your Canon... If you shoot in raw, you can do many things to rescue images later... Simply changing the temp will affect the colours... But you can also directly change colours etc... depending on your program.
