Is this common? I have noticed a few post that say something like " FS Canon 1d mkII " and then when you read it they say " had the shutter replaced at 35000"
If you had one go out at about this mark how much did you pay for repairs?
Thanks.

There is too much fuzz about shutter count. 1 or 50,000 should not matter. As long as the body has not been inmerse in water or dipped in flour. The shutter can fail on the first photo or the 200,000 shoot. I think the cost to replace it it about $400 USD. So maybe take that into account.

Well I guess it could be worse. The part that sucks is that I just bought this less than a week ago and I have a birthday party to shoot this weekend and a wedding in a little over a week. I hope Canon puts a rush on it ( like that would ever happen).
I honestly do not think the person that sold it to me knew about it. Everything was working properly when I picked it up and about 300 shots later ( mostly test shots ) the shutter has one of the blades laying across the bottom of the frame.
Well that is life I guess.

My 1Ds Mk3 broke at 14,000 shots. I was less than impressed but it was covered by warranty. I would expect to pay only half the costs of the repair for a failure at 36k although Canon may expect different.

It must be because I mailed mine in to Canon for a new shutter and it only had 36,000 on it. ;)

I highly doubt it was abused either. The camera is very mint except for a couple scrapes from the strap. The person I purchased it from also seems like the type of person that really took care of his gear.

I hope to find out tomorrow or Tuesday. It would be nice if they would cover half since the shutter only lasted 1/6th of what it is rated for. However I am not holding my breath on Canon doing the right thing, after all it is a 3 year old camera.

I got it for 1,100 bucks. I was shooting with natural light. Everything was still functioning properly but I noticed the dark line in the photos. Once I saw it was not stopping ( even with longer exposure time) I removed the lens and watched the shutter. 1 of the blades just came loose and it was laying in front of the sensor when all of the other ones were tucked away nice and neat.

SUN. The white mark is due to the fact that one of your shutter blades is now loose and that portion is over exposed. That dark spot is your shutter blade.
And yes mine looked exactly like that.
Canon sent me a quote for 331 USD to repair it. I told them it was a disgrace that a camera rated for 200,000 clicks could not even get a quarter of the way there. They told me " you should send you camera in every 100,000 actuations to have it checked." I told them I would be happy to if they could make a camera that could get to 100,000 actuations because this one bit the dust at 36,000.
They agve me a 20% discount.
So total was 269 USD and I will have a 6 month warranty on my camera .

Good luck and sorry about your shutter.
