Somehow when I first installed Adobe PS CS3, I messed up and chose an option that causes all my pictures to open as smart objects. This is a pain because in order for me to do thecommon editing I always do I need to open image / flatten image and then I can doadjustments. Can someone please tell me how I can make it so my pictures open each time not as a smart object? I do appreciate you help

I somehow made a wrong selection and now every photo I open in CS3 opens as a smart object. I need toknow how to change it back so I do not have to choose flatten layers on every file. Could someone please enlighten me ? Thanks in advance.

Just to be sure I understand the problem: You open Photoshop (not ACR), navigate to a jpeg, and it opens inside Photoshop as a smart object? And you're not using the "Open as smart object" option?

Actually now I deselected the option to have JPEG's handled with the RAW converter ( ACR2 ) but I still have the same problem with all the RAW files I open. Every time a file ( CR2 ) opens in ACR2 I am given one option when ready to edit in Photoshop. It simply says "Open Object". How do I get that to allow metoopen the image as it used to as a CR2 ? I just donot want every picture that gos throughmy ACR2 to haveto open as a smart object. I have discovered that if I hol the shift key when I chose opne object it opens as it is supposed to. I may just have to live with that. Or I may have to figure out why smart objects could bebefit my style of editing. I do not think it does.

I open nearly all of my pictures from the Bridge browser. It is just the RAW files I am having this issue with when they open in ACR2.

Hi

In ACR there is a line across the bottom of the window which defines what format the image will have when opened in PS. Click on this brings up a window to chose 8/16 bit and colour profile. Here is a tick box to open the image as a smart object. Clear this click ok and you're done.

Ah, thought so.

In ACR, click here:

Then untick this:
