Oh man, you obviously live under a rock, because there is nothing but those types of threads in this forum lately. I am assuming you heard about the Rebel TSi/500D? It's bound to happen, because Canon and any other electronic company in the camera business need something new to keep the money rollin in

A little late to the game? ;) The D90 and 5D2 both have video. Probably some other ones I don't know about.

Is is needed? Not really. Convenient? You bet it is. Will consumers buy it? You can bet it.

I know, it's because they are backed up on orders and the shipment is not coming in as fast as their other models. Like the 50D is always in stock. I kept on E-mailing customer service and writing complaint letters to hurry on the next shipment. So I am thinking ( wishful) that all my efforts, caused them to ship the first box that came in!! Again that is wishful thinking...

I'm looking forward to improved autofocus, I don't want to buy a video camera and lug around it's own charger and battery and media.

Well the rumor is, that there will be a Firmware update for the 5D MARK II, to better improve the capabilities of the video settings while recording... Will it come out for the Rebel T1i/500D, hard to tell? But I am sure it will be inevitable.

^I really like it too! I'm excited for the first DSLR I get that can record video. Probably won't be until two bodies from now though.

When you start shooting weddings, could see some interesting ideas coming into play.

This is the same as when live view first turned up. Loads of people moaned, others loved the idea.

its only you.

do you moan about air con in your car?

about phones with cameras in them?

dont like it - dont use it... like it - buy it...

you can argue the point till the cows come home.. people wanting it is what drives it - you aint forced to buy anything.

i have been shooting the construction process for concrete pool building this week and to switch to vid to show the bobcat climbing out of the hole sure beats a photo of it - and it will make a fine little clip on my website for potential buyers... saves me carting a video camera around and the vids are already digital...

might not suit you but there are many who love it for fun and for $$$$$$ - think outside the square :)
