5 weeks ago I had my 1DsII adjusted due to front focus. So far I was pretty happy but using the 300 2.8 IS with 2x TC I seem to have a front focus problem again. The 300 came back yesterday after ebing adjusted (it had a definate front focus issue) and seems to now be fine at 300 mm f2.8 (tested at 3m)

But almost all of the shots I took yesterday at 600mm f5.6 look like this

So can a 2x TC have a focus issue? Am I being too picky here? I looks like a damn sharp combo, just not in the right place

One thing to bear in mind is the focus accurracy with and without the T/C. Without the T/C, your 300/2.8 will be commanded to "within 1/3 DoF". When you put the T/C on, it will be "within DoF".
DoF will be smaller with the T/C (given the same subject distance) but you really need a better target to make a judgement.
