If only it actually produced an image. A wine bottle glued on an adaptor would probably give comparable image quality.

Actually - does anyone actually have any experience with lenses like this? Maybe it's worth it just for a laugh - some of them are quite cheap...

They are basically $100 telescopes with a T mount. I've seen some image samples done with them and honestly, you be just as well cropping down a shot from a cheap 300mm lens to 2MP.

I would suspect people who like the shots from this type of lens are the same that like the look of a 20x digital zoom from their P&S.

It is white though. All it needs is a red ring and image quality would increase 10 fold.

better off saving for something else

or if you're on the cheap and can deal with MF, look into getting an older Manual Focus 400 or so and converting it..some guy here recently bought an old 400mm lens at a thrift store for $7 and converted it to Canon mount and ended up with quite the bargain!

I'm sure I saw an old thread in here where someone gave one of these things a try and published his findings. Do a search and you'll probably turn it up.

That's the one - I just found it myself. The first pics don't appear until post #222.

Do a search on Amazon.com for "Phoenix" and longer ones will pop up. I think there is a 650-2600 for under $300 - ships from a 3rd party though.

I'm guessing a real good tripod and good PP skills will yield some good useable shots.

No that's just the same lens, but you also get a 2x converter, which is how you get to 2600mm.

It seems like it might be just about acceptable. I'm thinking shots from across a football field :P Time to upgrade my 70-200!
