I found the 1.6X on my tele- 80-200L very useful in taking street snap shots as it converted to a 320 2.8 zoom.
For a FF, the only option is the massive, heavy and expensive Sigma 120-300 2.8.
(however, FF has the choice of using 1.4X,jack up the ISO and still has a noise-free picture)

Which put me into questions of the reasons going FF.

for me the very LEAST and totally unimportant for going to FF is the ' a 35mm behaves like a 35mm lens'.

people should realise that we have moved to the 21st century and canon glass is now used on digital formats and the film dinosaurs are in their ice age!

I'm not going completely FF, as I'm getting a 1D II, but it's the IQ, weather sealing, and noise advantages for me.

That's cool it it works for you, but I like my 14mm to be ultra wide, I like my 24 to be wide, and I like my 50 to be normal. If that makes me a dinosaur, so be it.

but surley your 14mm behaves as a 14 mm..its the Field of View that changes, not the focal length.

I'm with Tim on the focal length field of view thing. Lens selection makes more sense with full frame. But I can't believe you didn't include 'viewfinder' in the poll.

if there were wide primes for croppers I might have stayed. That said, the ISOs on FF are killer as is the resolution. But the fact the 5D and 5Dii have the sharpest images out of any canon is also very appealing.

Comparing the 40D and 5D viewfinders with one eye looking through each one simultaneously, the difference isn't big. Now, the real significant differences for me were having better wide angle versatility, narrower/better DoF control, and per pixel sharpness last. It's ironic that I now plan to invest in a Tokina 11-16 for my 40D rather than a 16-35 for my 5D.
