40D - Lcd image (what I see is not what I get)

I recently took a series of photo's and when I reviewed them in the lcd they looked fine; however, when I downloaded these to the computer some parts of the photo's were cut off.

Is there a guide inside the viewfinder I am missing or is this just a learning curve. Should I not fill the viewfinder with so much of the image.

What you see through the viewfinder is not what you get; in fact, more is captured.
What you see on the LCD is exactly what you'll get in the stored files, as far as coverage is concerned anyway.

If your uploaded files cover less than you are seeing on the LCD preview, I'd suspect that you are seeing window clipping, in other words, you are displaying the images at too high a magnification, so not all of the image can be viewed at once.

Maybe it's something else, but from your description it would seem a bizarre and unlikely type of fault.

A rank outside possibility is a bad CF card, with part of the image being corrupted and not appearing.

Thanks, I will play around with the magnification on the computer and try that.

Thanks xarqi - after your response I checked the lcd and those photo's I cut off were due to the fact that they were night shots and I was not taking into consideration the top few millimeters where the shutter and aperture are displayed.
