Yesterday was the 1st outing with my 'fixed' MKIII since it's return from Canon. Quite alarmingly I had two in focus images from the 1st ten cars ... this lead to a frantic mashing through the custom functions and numerous expletives!

Eventually managed to get the thing to focus ... and once the focus had locked it tracked the subject perfectly. Anyway a few photos from the event ...

Superb shots mate. 1, 5 and 7 are great shots from almost ground level.
Too bad if you have to tweak your body to get it focus properly.
That should happen out of the box IMO

even with problems, you got nice shots ;). I like 1, 5 and 7(antenna distroy this nice mk1)

I got same feeling with my 1Dmk3 yesterday when i shooting my friends testing  I was totally lost with new body, but i adjust only af speed a bit slower, it helps a little. Still i am not satisfied, but i need learn and testing more..i dont know where i should start with my dark lens :D

Cracking set Jay. The shallow DoF you are getting from that lens is amazing. I always enjoy looking at your posts as your shooting style and pictures are always spot on for me.
Once you adjusted your mk3 did you notice any better performance than before you sent it in to Canon? Mines getting picked up on tuesday, so hoping it comes back comes back minus a couple of issues i seem to have.

Cheers mate. The camera was reasonable before I sent it for the 'repair', but as I mentioned, once Canon had performed their AF adjustment it needed a major tweak to the custom functions to make it perform. Fingers crossed I've got it set right now!

Thanks Petris. Certainly slowing down the AI Servo tracking sensitivity helped me yesterday. Maybe the camera was just too sensative and was focusing on the torrential rain we had at the time :)

Cheers Tim. I must admit I was pleased with the way No.3 turned out.

Thanks Kev, thats very nice of you to say. Despite the horrendous conditions and at times poor light I was pretty much sat at ISO 100 all day. f2 lenses are the future lol :)

Once I reconfigured the camera is was superb much better than before the Canon AF adjustment. Will give it an extended test over in Portugal this week.

Nice series of your usual high standard, particularly like the framing of the MK1's . Always a good variety of shots and enjoyed the selection on the website also.

Cheers Kipper, thats very kind of you. On the drive home I was running through the shots from the day in my head and felt I didnt really capture enough variety ... looking at the stuff on the PC, I kind of wish I'd tried a few more things.

Cheers

Good stuff as usual Jay,

Love the composition of some of them fair play!
bit of PS to take the colour down of the arrow in 1&4 would leave them being even more WOW dont mean to sound harsh :-)

out of interest what settings and lens were used for the brake shot?

What was with the re-call with the mk3? was just about to try a deal with getting one after speaking to the bank manager tomorrow but im touch and go whether i'll end up with one of the problematic versions..

Regards,
Jon.S

Cheers Jon. Not harsh at all mate, will have a look a desaturating the arrows a little to see how they turn out.

The brake shot was taken with the 85mm f1.2 ... the exif says f/5.6 but I'm I could have sworn it was taken at f/8.

The recall of the MKIII was due to Canon apparently finding a new 'fix' for the AF. Some cameras (I suspect the older ones) needed parts changing .. mine just needed a software AF adjustment. As I've mentioned, once I reconfigured the custom functions the camera performed brilliantly, in fact better than it's ever done.

Cheers
Jay
