I have been trying infared photos, but there not turning out with my G3

I think I m not setting Custom White balance correctly , or I dont have the settings correct on my camera.

The Booklet that I have for the camera isnt very clear on how to set custom white balance.
(I do have Photoshop 6.0 and have the info for channel mixing)

Thank you
Pamela

For comparison, I shoot RAW, ISO 50, P mode with Auto White Balance on my G1. Then I convert the RAW file to TIF using Custom White Balance (which is simply a matter of clicking the eyedropper on any part of the photo that should be medium to dark gray).

I don't do channel mixing, however, so can't suggest anything.

Cheers,

Don

As far as I know to set a cutom white balance you have to press the navigational button down once, and the screen that you get should be for the white balance settings. Now, If you want to do a CWB, using the directional pad take it to the C1 and put your lens in front of a blank white paper so it fills the whole area, and without using flash pres set so the camera evaluates White Balance.

Note that not on all settings is CWB available...

This goes for the G6 cause that is the only G series camera I have owned, but I asume that the same things goes for all of them...

Hope this helps...

Regards,
Artan.

I've had my best IR results with a G3 when I have set the CWB in the following way:

In TV mode click WB.
Place a piece of white paper in front of the camera (close but not touching)
Choose CWB 1 or 2
Click the * button
Hey presto!

I found trying to set the CBW with the IR filter on or from the actual image you are trying to capture doesn't yield very good results!

Is that straight from the camera? My Hoya R72 initially produces a magenta hue.

What filter are you using and what camera settings are you using? If you could show some examples of the images in question, the rest of us could probably be more able to help you solve your issues and get you out there making images.

No it is not straight from the camera. I use a Hoya R72 and get the purple/magenta hue. I then process in PS - and end up with this! I don't have the process handy (I am in work) but I will try and post it when I am home.
