The GBH made an appearance at our local pond while I was trying out my new lens (400/5.6) on the ducks. I tried to catch the heron in flight, but I need more practice with this long lens -- mostly I was swinging the lens all over the sky and doing a terrible job of tracking the heron and especially ducks in flight.

The heron, noticing my new lens, decided to demonstrate its hunting skills for me. "Watch this", he said as he makes his unerring strike.

"Wait a minute ... I know the fish is here somewhere!"

"Oh my ... how embarrassing!"

"Don't smirk, Mr. Fancy-New-Lens photographer, let's see you spear a fish"

Thanks for the comments, Ken, Bill, Harvey, Pat, and Mitch.

These shots were made in less than two seconds so I didn't quite know what I had until seeing them in post processing. The last one also made me chuckle.
