Hey guys, well lately I have been wanting to purchase PS for myself to have on my computer. I have been using a 30 day trial and my PS teacher allows me to stay after school in his room and do my stuff then. But I would like to have it on my computer to use at my leisure whenever I want. I have been searching through eBay and have found MANY copies of CS3 selling for around $150-200. They all say they are the actual copy, not student edition, etc. But I am wondering if this is true or not? They say they come new, sealed, etc. so if you buy it like that from Adobe for $650 or so, why can you get it on eBay for $175? Just let me know if anyone has done something like this/experiences. Thanks!

CS3 is "last year's model", already replaced by CS4. That doesn't mean it won't work fine for you but you won't get any support from Adobe unless you pay for it. I think it's a minumum of something like $39 per call.

If you never need Support, you'll be fine. I suspect that's one reason the eBay copies are selling so cheap.

Well CS4 would be nice but I don't have the money for it right now and since I'm taking CS3 is school I have a bunch of books on it + background knowledge. And I don't think I would ever need support because I got POTN :D

If its a legal copy the seller should be willing to sign a Transfer of License letter. If they aren't willing to do that then you have your answer. Here's the letter: http://www.adobe.com …transfer_owner/ToL_NA.pdf (external link)

It's an illegal copy, don't buy it! I was taken for $160 very recently. When you receive the box, you'd swear it was a legit copy. It's not. It doesn't work properly and there's nothing you can do to get your money back. Run, don't walk away from this deal. Here (external link)is some information that I found a little too late.

And since you're a student you can buy CS4 for the same price of CS3 on eBay. Here's the link to the Academic Superstore: http://www.academicsuperstore.com …Photoshop+Extended/961155 (external link)

If you look around you may find even better prices.

I've been looking at the student editions but thought that they are limited with the options on the programs.. Is this true or do you get the full edition for cheaper since you are a kid? And will high school students be able to purchase? :p

Hi Cole!

I just received my copy of Photoshop CS4 I ordered through my Sister who is in college. She got it for me for $180 shipped.

It is the full, real deal! I'm pretty excited!

The student editions are certainly NOT limited versions. Most of the graphic artists I work with have high school or college aged kids and use legitimate student software on their home computers. You don't get ANYTHING cheaper because you're a kid, you get it cheaper because you're a student or the cash-strapped parent of a student! High school students can purchase student software AFAIK. (See my PM to you.)

On Ebay there is ALWAYS a way to get your money back if you pay with a credit card through Paypal. If you get a counterfeit copy, simply file a Paypal claim. Bingo, your money back. If they don't give it to you, file a credit card chargeback. Bingo, your money back. The seller will also likely be banned from Ebay.

Yeah if you are a student you could purchase it for $180 from an academic site like journeyed.com.

They do offer upgrade versions, BTW, for around $180. I believe you can go from CS2 to CS4:

The only thing about student software is that it can't be upgraded to the next edition, you need to buy a new copy instead. Which isn't a big deal considering how cheap it is compared to regular prices.

If I got CS4 I probably not worry about upgrading :p It would be good enough for a few years work!
