The 50D is not all that old...announced August 2008. It is not surpassed by a successor APS-C body yet. The 5DII is still as expensive as FF ever has been; the 5D is still holding its price on the used market at about $1500. So why all the 50D's (twenty-five of them since mid February!) showing up for sale?!

Did you compare that to the number of 40D sales? How about 30D sales?

I think his point is that the 50D is too new to have that many sales.

Perhaps it's all those bankers and hedge fund people who have to give back their bonuses... They have to raise the money from somewhere. Is there a whole load of 'L' glass too??

But those bodies have been out for years, and the have successor products (the 50D). So it makes sense for these older designs to be for sale, by those seeking to trade up.

I saw three in the past 10 pages. All but one were selling lenses with the camera so I dont think its a body issue. Lots of people run out and buy the latest trinket only to find out that it still takes effort and some knowledge to get results. You know the old saying that "The suit doesnt make the man".

A bunch of the ones I've seen for sale usually have a bit of buyers remorse or they just really need the cash for more important things.

If you ask me, it's two words...

Microsoft Cashback

The 50D was released in the midst of the cashback offers, and so many people could buy them and get $200 off. So they could buy it, try it out, and if they didn't like it sell it and lose nothing on the deal.

Also, if you remember, Canon came out with some aggressive rebates soon after the release. Remember it was released at $1399, then a month after release Canon dropped the price $100 to $1299, and then came out with a $200 rebate, dropping the price to $1099 all within the first 3 months of the camera hitting the market. Couple that with the Microsoft cashback and people were getting 50D for $900.
