Personally, I feel that my 50D is better, but I have nothing to back that up with. It may be perception, or it may be real, but I feel more "confident" with the 50D on fast moving stuff than I do the 5D MKII.

BBD -- it could be shutter lag. i've never used the 5d II but i've owned the 5d and i now own the 1ds mark III. in rally fast shooting situations the FF cameras seem just a hair less responsive.

People bought them instead of 5DMKIIs' and then they became available....Mine cost $1059 at rebate time from B+H... I find that I can get as good landscape shots from the 50D that are close to the 5D I have, but the 50D is #1 for Wildlife and Sports.. This with the 50D last Wednesday in Maui...

BTW, in my experience, the focus on the 50D is much better than the focus on the 30D

Can you compare the focus to the 40D to the 50D...

You guys are making me drool...I bet I pull the trigger on a 50D soon.
I've been lurking on many message boards for a little while now, reading what I can.
I've seen all the trash talk and all the praise for the 50D, held it in person along with a Nikon D300, and well, the 50D wins the hands test. Thats an important key to me!

Now I'm just waiting on my wife's uncle to get back to me, he does some work on the side for a guy who owns his own photography company and can get me a 50D at cost or a gently used one...hopefully. I'm ready to purchase! Next I'll be researching the lenses.

So, being the curious person that I am, I did an impromptu search for 50D on the Sell forum. What I got for those that had posted a reason were:

1. Buying/bought a 5D/5D MkII and didn't need the extra body (some had 1Dxxx)
2. Needed money/Financial reasons
3. Weren't even opened BNIB

#3 leads me to believe that they bought them for profit as many of them stated they were in kit and the lens was separate or kept.

There were only a few that didn't mention a reason and can be chalked up to any of the above or maybe they didn't like it/buyer's remorse. Of course they aren't going to say it was a piece of garbage while trying to sell, so take it for what it is worth.
