We ought go down with our birding lenses, set up by Lincoln over looking the Potomac and memorial bridge. We could get some neat B.I.F. shots. I froze the rotors on most shots I took. There is one I got a little blur but not enough.

For the whirlies? Yeah. Or take the short lenses down to Gravelly Point and catch everyone coming in to National. Aside from the inevitable f/32 dust showing up, I did OK on them, I think. Although I have one of the Huey where he was moving too fast (well, it couldn't have been camera motion, now, could it?) so he's blurred out too.

Was pretty good!! The kewl manager was there. It's suprising how everything just goes better when you have a manager everyone likes. Everyone is willing to work harder for him ya know? whereas the ass wipe we have the other nights, people just don't give a rip and don't get all the work done. You would think that the yucky managers would be able to see this... but no.

Its amazing what a good manager can do for morale.

We bag, seal and pack the combs for a plastics company in a neighboring town, we get paid to do this work. Sometimes we bag toothbrush holders or soap dishes, sometimes we make little ditty bags with a few things in them, sometimes we do the Goodie comb sets you see in stores. The president and founder of the comb company was an ardent supporter of the Center and basically guaranteed us work ad infinitum. It is great as something to ground and settle my guys in between activities and it brings in a little bit of money.

That's really cool Crissa!

Hope got to stay with another volunteer family over the weekend (so she wouldn't have to stay in the shelter).

When Lorraine called them today to set up the meeting time for us to pick up Hope, they said that they didn't realize she was coming to me today (thought it was tomorrow), and that the kids were at school. They asked if they could keep her one more night so that the kids could say goodbye to her.

Of course we said yes. I was SO looking forward to getting her today, I've just been waiting and waiting. But it is SUCH a good sign that they want to keep her longer, you know?

So we won't get her till tomorrow afternoon. (I can't pick her up in the AM because of my Tuesday meetings and such). I'm bummed, but it's ok.

Awwwwww

Permagrin wrote in post #7678297 (external link)
I don't. I had several and every time I attempted to use one, my images looked soft (so I've given most of them away).

I use one on each lens (kid finger prints)...doesn't seem to screw with IQ at all...

I love the red hat ladies, when we were in Baltimore and went on a harbor cruise they adopted us and were dancing and having a ball with our clients. A few weeks later I got a note from one of them with photos she had taken thanking us for taking them there and allowing them to enjoy their company. It was very sweet.

LOL, cool

short5 wrote in post #7678707 (external link)
Okay I just thought they were some funny old biddys on the mall. What's up with red hat ladies?

Sorry, I didn't realize you didn't know! They're EVERYWHERE....and sometimes NUTS.

Woolburr wrote in post #7678921 (external link)
Trying to bounce back and forth between the two modes poses a bit of a challenge. Here we go with the multiple cameras again....hehehe

That's it....I need a camera caddy....they dial in the settings, change lenses and all that other good stuff...and I can just concentrate on getting the right shot!

Its called an assistant. ;) Jenn has 2 of them, I'll bet she'd let you borrow one!

It was that cold? :D

Looks like planes and trains might drop off of the list. All them wacky terrorists out there takin' pictures of trains and planes. That leaves animals.and it's just a matter of time before PITA finds that somehow the shutter sound scares them thus causing undue stress.

We haven't sunk to the level of the UK yet, but we're getting there. Thankfully, for the most part the authorities are pretty level headed here. I once wandered into the AMTRAK station here and started shooting the trains and nobody said a word...

I've been challenged by people at the zoo about using flash on the animals. In all the time I've been shooting in zoos I have seen only one animal react to flash and that was Winston, the crotchety old silverback Gorilla at the Wild Animal Park. The person who was the zoo's photographer for many years actually recommended using flash at the zoo. I think most of the animals are used to it given how many people don't know how to control the flash on their P&S cameras.

I hear nothing but good things about them.
Yeah that's what I meant. I need to make a custom mode for panning so I can just dial it in quick. I was doing that a bit yesterday. Going between trying to Fraze the action on the jumps then pan as they ran by. It worked at this venue last year.

When I'm shooting an air show, I set my Tv to a shutter speed suitable for props and rotors and my Av to an aperture that gives a good compromise between shutter speed and aperture for the jets. The big problem is remembering to switch between the two. One of the photographers I met at Luke AFB commented about wanting a camera with voice recognition settings... All you had to do was say "jets" or "props" and the camera would automatically switch to the correct settings.

I haven't been hassled yet either. I took some shots inside O'hare terminal and a few out the window and no one said a word.

That's great. It has to be very rewarding. You should keep a journal and try to get contact info. It would be fun to see or hear about your fosters later on.

I am keeping photos of all of them... eventually one day, I'd like to make a collage of some kind with all the pictures. :D

 good idea. I shoot the horses at 1/1000 in servo. Slower for panning also in servo ring of fire on the AF. I switch to one shot center focus and AV mode or manual for the crowd and non sporting horse shots. At Arlington Wool and I were shooting a Honor Guard walking back and forth. At the ends he would be in front of dark green or woody stuff so I would have to set the camera about 2/3 underexposed so the camera would not make him overexposed. In the middle he is walking in front of white marble the camera desperately wanted to make 18% gray so I had to spin the EC up a stop. Back and forth he went, a spinning the dial I went.
