Wow, I just dropped $700 in Canon's pocket two weeks ago to have my gear serviced because I was in a car accident with my gear inside. Everything worked but, I was concerned about possible alignment issues, etc.

You walk in a spend $60... how do you think I feel about Canon CSR right now?

I sent them $4000 worth of gear. You bring in three camera bodies valued around the same price.

I don't know what to think...right now.

My gear is working great and I am grateful but, you really are lucky. Good to know my cash offsets all the freebies for others. (sarcasm)

And the car insurance did not cover this ? Canon's warranty is void due to accidents such as water immersion and collision. They told me that is the FIRST thing they check for ANY work -- actually they ask. I am sure you disclosed the accident, therefore all bets are off for any warranty work.

I had two of my lenses fixed under my extended warranty by samy's. The lady from the insurance company assure me that canon does not take their credit card, since the lenses are not under their name. That I had to pay first and they will pay me back.

I dropped the lenses and Canon gave me the flat fee to sevice both lenses ($85 and $135). I faxed the estimate to the insurance company and ask them to fill it with their credit card info etc.

Canon took their payment...:)

I did followed Canon's and the insurance company procedure. The lady of the insurance company was so thankfull for learning how to handle this "ordeal" :) It took two days for my lenses to be fixed...:) I dropped and picked them up.

the far left af points no longer light up the leds are dead

That won't be your screen then, it will require Canon to mess with the AF points located up above the focusing screen up inside the body. That sounds like fun!

Canon Irvine has always treated me well. I know the CSR and when brought my 1DsII in for sensor cleaning she told me it'll cost $30 because of the new policy that was put into effect two days before. Then she wrote it up as a free service after I agreed.

I stripped the screws on one of my lenses and utterly destroyed the front sleeve assembly trying to rip it off. Canon NJ quickly repaired it without laughing at me

about three hours and about 3,000 miles apart...J/K. I think none. I know I said this before, but the difference. Is the attitude and respect you bring along with your gear. Smiling does not hurt either...:)

If only I knew a killer ;)

I'm surprised by all the love California's CPS gets, while New Jersey gets so little. Hopefully it's just the east coast folks are too busy to report on the great service :)

Hey ito4u...

I'm sorry to hear about your experience and the $$$ you paid for the services... I was truly expecting to pay the full amounts of whatever the costs were on all three of my bodies... But as luck with have it, only $60 came out of my pocket... Just chalk it up as one of those wierd occurances where all the stars and planets lined up to give me such a wonderful gift from CPS (at least this time around)...

And I completely agree with what Silvex said... It doesn't hurt to smile and be as respectable and courteous has possible... I'm sure they've heard every single story in the book about broken parts, cracked LCD's, and camera malfunction on all their equipment... Attitude should be left at the door and replaced with appreciation, civility, and politeness...

Keep in mind californians are known for the chill surfer attitude...whereas NY folks are a bit harsh...I remember when I paid a visit in 1998...and walked into a ray's pizza...so what do you want ? <with a HEAVY NY accent> I almost busted laughting, since it reminded me of so many mob movies...:)
