I have a Canon 18-55 so I am looking for a good everyday lens. I have the Quantaray 70-300, but I think that is a bit big for everyday carry. Yes, a picture really is worth a thousand words!

Those kinda answer the question of it being a "good" everyday lens! Yes, a picture really is worth a thousand words!

The 55-250 is not wide enough for everything. You might be able to get away with a 28-135, but 55 is way too long on a crop sensor camera to be an everything lens, unless you are positive you will always be able to step back ALOT. Exactly, it is all about compromises. If you only shoot one thing in one condition, there might be a perfect lens, but nobody does that. Jason Hamilton - flickr

Mar 31, 2009 16:44 | #12 I was in the same situation as you are. I owned the 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS. That combo is nice, and inexpensive, as well as light. It also offers surprisingly good IQ. BUT I hated changing lenses and was also concerned about the plastic lens mount of those lenses wearing out. I also missed good shots on occasion because of focal length issues.
