Hey guys, well I have been shooting everything in JPEG but I think I might switch over to RAW as everyone says it will produce nicer images. Now is where I need the help. I have looked around and haven't found any step by step instructions to converting RAW images to JPEG to get them ready for PP. If someone could help me out, that would be great! Thanks all,

Cole_S

What software are you using?

Typically you go through similar steps editing a RAW image as you would a JPEG, altering things like exposure, WB, contrast, saturation, etc. The one thing to remember is to try and do as much work in your RAW converter before going to JPEG.

I would say(if you're using photoshop) edit your RAWs and open them as PSD files. save them as PSD files. I don't even save jpegs unless I plan to post on the web or burn on a disc for someone else.

A well shot jpeg will look good. A well processed RAW file will look good and gives you more flexability, but won't necessarily look better than a well shot jpeg.

kyleturbo's suggestion of going via psd is only really useful if you're going to take them into photoshop. Many people just convert directly from RAW to jpeg without an intermediate step or going into PS at all.
