I am considering purchasing the Epson 3800 and woindering if it is worth considering buying a used one off eBay or elsewhere or even a refurbished one from a place like Hunts. Are there any issues I need to be aware of? Any problems with shipping one (can the print heads get damaged)?
Any advice you can offer is appreciated.

If its of interest, Epson often has some attractive pricing on refurbished 3800's -- as low as $895 last time I checked.

Actually, I just got a brand new one for only $950. I got a good price from a member of POTN (Erik of Shades of Paper), and combined with a $200 rebate, that was a bottom line price.

I don't know for certain, but I thought I heard the rebate was extended to the end of May. Either way, in answer to your OP if you are willing to wait, you don't need to buy a used or refurb. Waiting + shopping = good price.

thanks, I will shop around and see what I can find. I am going to put my old Canon i9900 on eBay to see what I can get for it too.

Unfortunately, the rebate ended 3/31/09. So I'll be shopping around for a while I guess.

Bummer! I purchased mine at the end of Feb because it ended then, but then they extended it a month. Economy's bad, they may initiate another rebate soon to encourage sales. Good luck, it's an awesome printer.

Apparently there may be another rebate that runs Apr 1 through May31 but Epson lags posting the info and rebate forms. So I am waiting to see for sure. I'd really like to get the 3800 but if not I may opt for the 2880.
Is there value in the 3800 Portrait or ColorBurst editions????
