Apologies if this question has been asked already.

I have a 450D and looking for a simple flash purely to take photo's at night (and possibly in the day when conditions require) of mountain biking. I want to do the rear synch thingy to get good light trails behind the rider. Also possibly in the future if money allowed use the flash as an off camera flash.

What suggestions of equipment might you very knowledgable people suggest?

Does the 450D support rear synch or is it something you do on the flash unit?

Yep - the button on the flash makes 2nd curtain work. Otherwise, you need to get the riders to ride backwards...:)

As a former mountain bike racer, I'd have to ask whether the riders are going to be okay with this? Riding at night is always sketchy...even with the most expensive lights out there.....so getting a blast of significantly brighter light shot at me would be a VERY angering/bad thing because it would destroy your night vision and blind you very possibly into a crash.

I understand what your saying but these would be my mates and I also ride and have had it happen to me and didnt find it that bad. I would also never do it in a space where it might be deemed dangerous to do so having been in that situation also.

Since your in the UK and ride you'll have probably read MBUK magazine, the guy who does what seems like most of the photography for that mag and a few others has a cool blog worth reading. He shows some of the setups and executions of pics and shares thoughts about the best ways to make it all look kinda cool.
