Interesting. Were both pictures taken at full reach?

both were taken at full reach, the dslr pic had slight sharpening,i find my s5 pics dont stand up to much sharpenning, also the dslr pic was cropped more ,both pics were taken from the same point

I currently have an S3 and have been wanting to upgrade to a 40D and a 100-400mm L for quite some time now.
I like the S3, but the quality just doesn't reach SLR levels. I'm not sure about the zoom on the S5, but I believe the 100-400 (with the 1.6x factor of the 40D) has more reach than the S3?

the s3 and the s5 have the same zoom ,i forgot to mention i had the canon dc58b tele converter attached, this gives the s5 50%more zoom and is rarely off my s5,im not sure which has the more reach s5 plus teleconverter or 350d 100-400 1.6 crop,im sure somebody on this website would know the answer

Nice shots. Love the area where you were shooting.
