yep. i didn't know i needed to consult a religious holiday schedule to time the return :D.

No kidding! It's great they allow their employees to celebrate the entire holiday, but maybe they could hire a few that are non-Jewish.
I'm sure they'd have people lined up around the building who normally don't observe the entire holiday that could use an extra week's paycheck!

my guess is that would not fly with the church :D. the good news is the competition (BH) is also off for the holidays.

Good news for them, not for us. Especially for you, if your shipment gets returned.

When I bought my 430EX II I dealt with another dealer that also closes for certain holidays. I needed the flash the day after they opened up again, which I explained to the manager. He was really apologetic because there was NO notice given when I placed my order. They paid for the difference between the ground shipping and overnight and I had my flash in time.

Ed,

Just drop an email to Mel Gibson about them being closed and why...I bet he will offer to help....freak that he is, apparently.

OK, bad joke...but is sucks you got into the mess. When you received your RMA apparently you were given no notice about the closure? I would hope that these companies really accept the costs involved with covering the losses for people who were caught unawares.

They do have non-Jewish employees, but who would be their supervisor? Since it is owned by Jews, at some point over the Holiday, they would have to entrust the business to someone outside the family as they cannot work for 8 days. If you owned a business, would you let it operate even though you could not check in on it for over a week? It sure is inconvenient for us (and them too), but it is safer for the business' longevity to just close up shop, instead of let someone non-family member manage it for a week. That would take a lot of trust.

Holy cow, that's service! I can't believe they'll hold it for so long. I'd guess FedEx has lots of storage space with the recession.

It's more likely that Adorama has a temporary warehousing agreement with Fedex to store packages during their extended closures that happen a couple times a year. And no, I seriously doubt Fedex is doing this for free, as storage space is a premium, regardless of the current financial environment.

or else it's cheaper to store it than to transport it back to the west coast :D.

I read that you're returning a 300. If this is a 300mm f/2.8 IS then it might be cheaper to store it here ;)

if they returned it to me and got me to pay another $85 that might prove more profitable :D.

I don't quite understand why they have to close down completely, doesn't make much sense in today's economy. That has to be costing them a good chunk of cash.
