I was scanning eBay listings about a week ago and noticed a used Canon 8MB CF card that had sold for $8 plus shipping. I thought that was a little strange considering I had recently bought a couple 4GB Ultra II CF cards from Costco for $9.99 each (a great deal!).

Anyway, a week goes by and I run across my old Canon 32MB CF card sitting in a drawer. I had been planning to sell some camera gear on eBay but hadn't sold anything online before so I figured the CF card would be a good item for my first eBay listing.

The CF card current bid is up to $6.15 and has 7 hours to go...

I gotta wonder about some of the buyers on eBay. Do they even check to see what something is worth before bidding or are they too caught up with winning the auction?

I sure hope it doesn't sell for more than $10. I don't want to feel like I ripped off somebody. I was very clear that this was a 32 megabyte card.

Someone a few days ago was trying to buy some small capacity cards to give people after having their picture taken in public places. It might explain it, or it's the usual eBay madness :D

Certain cameras or other electronic applications can't take cards larger than some sizes - and it's impossible to find new ones.

I had a guy come to me just this morning asking for a 512 CF card for some electronic thing he had. Nothing bigger, nothing smaller - he needed exactly a 512. I didn't even know where to send him.

I wondered whether compatibility issues with larger capacity cards might create a market for smaller capacity cards. You'd think it wouldn't be much of a market though.

My card sold for $6.15 and I'm fine with that.

That's not a bad idea. I saw some of these "outdoor studios" in Japan when I visited the Imperial Palace. The idea of giving the card right there on the spot, pretty good.

Maybe when the weather improves, I'll go to the Space Needle witha bag full of these little guys and see if I can make some scratch :D Use that 10-22 of mine, make lunch money while I'm at it!

Some of the manufacturers might start catching on to stuff like that and start selling low capacity cards and 100 packs or something like that.

But that probably wont happen. . .

There's little question in my mind that these people are confusing Megs with Gigs. Caveat Emptor. I think you're risking angry negative feedback (unjustified, of course) by selling them. Good luck.

If it were an 8MB card maybe, but anyone thinking they can buy a 32GB card for $6 would have to be pretty uninformed to say the least. A 32MB card is large enough for 100 pictures at 1600x1200 and standard jpeg compression. For many point and shoot users, that's alot of pictures.

Any online sale is at risk for negative feedback. You never know what someone will think of an item when they finally see it first hand. I'm happy to accept a return if the buyer isn't satisfied.

Smaller cards also mean you can't just spray and pray and you're back to only having 36 RAWs on a "roll" :) Therefore you have to think more.
