I came across a Canon 10D that I think is a good deal for my young cousin. I was going to sell my wife's 10D to him, but an opportunity came along where a guy was selling his camera body for $100. Is that a good price? If so, what would you choose as an inexpensive start lens. I was going to have him get a kit lens but remembered that the 10D is not comptible with EF-S lenses. Thanks

The least expensive and super sharp lens is the 50 1.8 ----

28-90 is the EF kit lens. Won't be too wide, but about the same as the 18-55 kit as far as optics.

There is also a tamron 19-35mm lens that works on the 10D, but then you have the opposite problem - 35mm is not very long.

24-85 IS A GOOD ONE, A LITTLE WIDER THAN A 28.

thanks for all the replies. I'd like to keep the cost under $100 if possible for a used lens and definitely under $150 so that it would be worthwhile getting the 10D. If I start going beyond that point too much, I'm in the territory for a used 20d w/ kit lens. I assume since no one answered my question straight out about the price I can get the camera body for, I assume its a good price for my cousin. thanks

Assuming it is in good shape, $100 is a fantastic price for the 10D.

If you have to keep it under $100 for the lens, the 22-55mm or the 28-90mm would be good choices. The 22-55 would be 35mm equivalent of 35-90, so that would be more usable than the 28-90, which is a 45-145mm equivalent.

thanks again for advice on the lens. time to start looking through the buy/sell forum. The only issue the guy told me about the 10d is he said it overexposes by about 2 stops. I'm wondering if he just doesn't know how to use the features on the camera well or if there really is a problem. I'm going to try and meet him tomorrow and take a look with one of my lenses to see if there is a problem or if its user error. Anyone heard of issues with overexposure by 2 stops on a 10D

I like the 35/2 a lot on my 10D.

And no, 2 stops overexposure isn't normal. I'd try doing a reset to factory settings (if doable on a 10D) and see how that affects things. The built in meter is pretty good.

Yeah a $100 for a 10D is cheap! I got mine for $250 earlier this year with the battery grip! I am using more often then my XTi! One of the cheap kit lens that isn't an EF-S will work. Most good camera stores should have them sitting on the shelves.

You can remove the rear end of the original 18-55 kit lens to fit the 10D
You just have to be careful when putting it down as the rear element is then exposed.
