Has anyone heard anything about canon upgrading their 300 f4 IS or the 100-400 f5.6 IS.
I am intending to purchase one of these and would hate to find out that they are being replaced in the near future. I ask this because one camera store told me the 300 f4 IS is being discontinued.

Don't know what they can upgrade on the 300mm f4, apart from adding IS.

The 100-400mm could do with an upgrade, particularly it's autofocus performance (I know I will get slated for saying this). There have been some rumours on this forum that Canon would announce an upgrade at one of the Spring shows. But then again, they are just rumours. Maybe they are going to bring out a 100-500mm L IS, and may I'm just starting this rumour.

If they were going to upgrade the 100-400, what I would like to see is.
Without raising the cost or weight (or not by much) give me f2.8, third gen IS and ability to focus with extenders (which f2.8 should do by itself).
That and maybe better sharpness and bokeh would be perfect, I might trade mine in for that.
Even better would be a 200-500/2.8L IS; if you are going to start a rumor make it useful and realistic. Think about it 24-70, 70-200, 200-500, all f2.8 that would be a great combo.

Just my opinion,
