The project is small parts from a manufacturer, and the 1:1 is really the requirements not macro. I'm just used to the macro lenses and therefore a shorter learning curve.

I've also heard bad things about the 1D/s Mark IIIs, but I would still buy 'em if I could afford 'em. Christian

joe mama wrote in post #7673321 I can help on a few of them: "HSM"--> "Hypersoning Motor" ("USM" -- "Ultrasonic Motor" for Canon) "EX" --> "L" "OS" --> "Optical Stabilization" ("IS" -- "Image Stabilization" for Canon) "IF" --> "Internal Focus" "DC" --> "Digital Crop" ("EF-S" for Canon) Perfect, exactly as I needed. They seem to have all of the same technical criteria and the MTF charts look just about the same. Any idea why the 70mm is more expensive than the 105mm? BorrowLenses.com has the EF100 macro (and other macro options) http://www.borrowlenses.com/category/canon_macro which you indicated you did own and I would presume are familiar with for rent for about $30.00 a week, and less if you need a longer term. There are probably NYC options as well I think that both Adorama and B & H Photo rent equipment. I was hoping there was some major leaning one by the group on one of the lenses, so it would make my decision for me. But you're right it seems I just have to rent one or maybe two of them to one complete the job and two see which one I like better for either purchase or future rentals. nphsbuckeye wrote in post #7675396 I've also heard bad things about the 1D/s Mark IIIs, but I would still buy 'em if I could afford 'em. Your argument aside, I'm just impressed with the number of logical falacies that you broke with one statement. Very impressive. Gear List * www.tranquilphotos.com

Sold it and picked up the Sigma 150/2.8 macro. Both lenses are incredibly sharp. I'm not really a Sigma fan, but the 150 macro is a pretty darn good lens. There are rings and hoods (and decent ones) for well less than $180, and I mean well less.

I was just going by B&H prices for the canon rings and hoods. I didn't add in shipping. Either way Canon should include them with the lens, even if they increase the price. Hi
