I just got my 17-55 and the hood off my 10-22 works / at least fits . Is there a reason to use EW-83 J or just get another EW-83E ?
I have 2 EW-83E now and will be getting another but don't know EW-83E or J ?
I keep at least 2 of each filter and hood for each lens so I will be getting at least 1 more hood but if the 17-55 should have the EW-83J , then I'll get 2 [probably less shipping .
EW-83E or J ?

The hood for the 10-22 won't do much to block stray light on your 17-55, it's just too wide. I'm not sure it does much on the 10-22. You can see how different they are:
