However, I also use the LCD a lot to avoid parallax. The LCD is also nice for getting candids, since people often think you're reviewing your old photos instead of taking new ones. Geoff

Doesn't the Canon Pro1 have an electronic LCD viewfinder? or are you refering to a viewfinder accessible from the top of the camera? Canon 30D

I like the optical viewfinder when I'm trying to photograph my kids doing sporting events because I think it's easier but since I added the TC-DC58n (teleconverter), that's out because the optical viewfinder doesn't know that the lens has been multiplied 1.75X.

I would say I use the LCD most of the time, especially when there are filters or wide or tele attachements on. You have to look at the LCD to see the full effect of a polarizer, for example. There are times when you need the viewfinder though, like when taking pictures in bright sunlight, which totally washes over the LCD image. Sometimes I use the viewfinder when i low light too, when I need to brace the camera against my face to prevent camera shake. Pio

I think your refering to the standard lens. No it does not block it like the G5, the changes to the body of the G6 moved the lens to the bottom left of the camera and it no longer blocks that small portion of the VF. Canon 30D

I've never used a G5, only the G6.

It seems like a great way to eliminate parallax without going to the cost (and mirror noise) of a proper SLR. It already has been done, its called EVF Electronic View Finder. Just that canon hasnt incorporated it into any of its P &S _______________
