I have 65 USD left in paypal after the purchase of a 70-200 f/4, and I am trying to decide between a Hoya pro-1 circular polarizer, or a ballhead.

I'm leaning towards the CP, but I would also like to replace my old cullman pan and tilt head. What do the wise members of POTN suggest?

I would get more use out of the ballhead. I rarely use a polarizer, but my tripod all the time. Depends what you want to shoot I suppose. Polarizer and ballhead would both be good investments for landscapes.

Alternatively, send me a PM and I'll send you my paypal info so you don't have to make a decision.

Did you get a UV filter for the 70-200? With a lens of that value I wouldn't dare leave off a UV filter. When my new 70-200 f/2.8 left the box it got a new UV filter before it even left the store and went in my bag.

Maybe a Mac warranty...

I wouldn't consider a UV unless it was a nice one. I've had some bad experiences in the past with cheap ones. Since I can't afford an expensive UV and a CP, I would only get a CP.

I fall into the group of people that don't really use UV filters unless conditions are terrible, and a CP would be able to protect my lens in a pinch.

I should also point that I am planning for a Caribbean cruise this May, so I will probably need a CP for my trip then.
