I have an Amazon account which I place items that I am considering buying in my cart. I generally do this because I intend to purchase the items and it saves me from looking for it again. Amazon updates your cart each time you log in and gives you the current price, letting you know if it has increased or decreased in price.

It has been a while since I logged in, but when I did tonight I noticed the prices not only went up on all my Canon gear, but even Manfrotto equipment has skyrocketed! Not a couple of bucks, but on the order of $20-30 each item. Looks like every business is using this 'recession' to make a buck. sigh

Amazon prices change all the time, depending on many things, including how much it costs them to get merchandise. Many times, the prices go back down.

Yep, Amazon is often like the stock market. They have some pretty advanced algorithms that determine the best price for them based on a variety of factors

Amazon doesn't just sell their own stocked merchandise, they are a venue for other retailers too. The prices reflected in my cart were from Amazon, Adorama, Calumet, and other retailers. Amazon doesn't have anything to do with other retailer's pricing, except by way of competition.

btw, Amazon also was the target of, if I remember correctly, a 20/20 expose about the fact they show different prices to different users. It is not unheard of for two folks to look at the same item and see different prices. I forget the term for this but it is not illegal, at least not of a Federal level nor in the state of Washington (where Amazon is based).

Amazon pricing is just always a roller coaster. Mind I am talking just Amazon pricing not that of their 3rd party sellers.
