Hi all,

Tomorrow I will be traveling to San Angelo, TX for business and will have a little bit of time in the afternoon / early evening to do some shooting.

Two questions:

1. What are the must-see sites for getting some good photos of the local culture / architecture?

2. Which would be the better rig to take with me: Powershot S5, or Rebel XTi with some combination of 18-55 IS / 55-250 IS / 50mm 1.8? If you recommend the dSLR, can I get by with 1 (or 2 max) lens(es)? The S5 wins on compactness and ease of travel but loses out on image quality and low light performance, so I'm a bit torn.

Thanks!

Canon 40D • EF-S 18-55 IS • EF-S 55-250 IS EF 28-135 IS USM EF 50/1.8 EF 85/1.8

There's not a whole lot in the panhandle. Here's a guide to San Angelo (external link). I'd hit the park and the ghost towns myself, but I've been out there before.

my grandfather told me about a guy in san angelo once. they worked in the oil industry in the 50's and 60's. my grandfather commented, one day, about how dry the weather was and asked how much the annual rainfall is in san angelo??

the gentleman replied, "about 8 inches..............but, you should be here the day we get it!"

that's one i'll never forget.
