Cross Linx (external link) is a festival that tries to "make pop meet classical music". At least, that's what they say.
Theme this year was "Film(ical) music".

Shot this with my "repaired" 1D2. Lenses from 20 to 200.

All images here: Link (external link)

For an alternative view of the night, visit http://www.roytelintelo.nl/?p=album&album=31 (external link). He's a colleague of mine at Atak, and also shot Cross Linx. Very nice, very different.

#1: Michael Nyman (on Piano)
Pretty boring image, but that's what you get when you're late (I thought it was at a different location) and have a three song rule...

IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/090319_CrLx/content/bin/images/large/rhd_20090319_CrLx_0001.jpg

#2: Lavinia Meijer of "Jacob TV"
IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/090319_CrLx/content/bin/images/large/rhd_20090319_CrLx_0048.jpg

#3: Jacob TV:

#4: Zita Swoon:
IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/090319_CrLx/content/bin/images/large/rhd_20090319_CrLx_0258.jpg

The following images wee shot in band rehearsal rooms. Lit by one spotlight bounced off a wall in most cases... Very intimate setting, from 5 to 15 people in the audience.
Turns out the 1D2 still had trouble AFing in low light.

#5: Declan de Barra:
IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/090319_CrLx/content/bin/images/large/rhd_20090319_CrLx_0300.jpg

#6: BoyShouting:
IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/090319_CrLx/content/bin/images/large/rhd_20090320_CrLx_0360.jpg

#7: Yuko. Yes, he's playing a cardboard box.
IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/090319_CrLx/content/bin/images/large/rhd_20090320_CrLx_0408.jpg

#8: Bird. I came in here just in time to shoot the last song, but not early enough to hear them say it was the last song... Oh well. Live and learn.

Thanks all!
No critique? ;)

Roman: I use a monopod occasionally, but I don't think I did here, apart from the first and fifth image. (I remember that Declan de Barra mentioned that it would be quite unlikely for anyone to steal the camera with "that big stick' by my side )

Might be in sRGB, Not in ProPhotoRGB, according to the LR historam

After shooting two concerts with a supposedly "repaired, working according to specifications" camera, yet getting plenty OoF images, yep, I bought a 1D3.

Well, jpg's aren't ProPhotoRGB so I'll take that as a yes! :-)

Let me know if you think the 1D3 does a good job of AF!

Yes, it does clip "a bit". :p

I will. Only tried it once, and it felt okay. Definite improvement over my 1D2, not sure if it's better then a good 1D2 ;)
Need to microadjust some lenses a bit better I think, but so far, so good...
Only two instances where the camera backfocussed, which may be user error (haven't checked yet)

Files look nice, and ISO 3200 is absolutely cleaner then ISO 1600 was on my 1D2 :)
Very nice. Some parts of the user interface I have to get used to I think, since I cannot set the camera to work exactly like I had my 1D2.

Also very nice that at last it's possible to use manual flash in Av mode :)

I'm sorry to say, but over all I think I like Roy's series better than yours. Besides that I think I would have chosen other photos to share here from your gallery. For instance,

I think I like:
http://www.moonglade.net …0319_CrLx_0268_large.html (external link)
http://www.moonglade.net …0319_CrLx_0160_large.html (external link)
http://www.moonglade.net …0319_CrLx_0272_large.html (external link)

All better than:
http://www.moonglade.net …0319_CrLx_0258_large.html (external link)

I feel like you've got way more interesting photos to share on Yuko aswell. And what I see from the gallery your photos of Declan de Barra it's all a bit too much of the same to me. I like the 2nd cello photo though: http://www.moonglade.net …0319_CrLx_0294_large.html (external link)

And I think I like http://www.moonglade.net …0319_CrLx_0315_large.html (external link) and http://www.moonglade.net …0319_CrLx_0324_large.html (external link) more than #5.

exactly, it looks like police stick and feels the same when hold. recently i took it along with 70-200mm tamron to an event and it realy stabilized my shots.

His shots of Michael Nyman and Zita Swoon are better for sure...
BoyShouting maybe as well.
Rest is "different" IMO ;)

Hmmm. Not sure what I think of that. The first one (#18 in the gallery, second link here) is a bit boring lighting wise.
And I choose this one because it was the only odd crop

Hmm. Which one? I liked the interaction here...

Yeah, not too much happening there, and a few of the "different" shots I binned for being OoF :(
However, IMO, this shot conveys the mood of the performance. (Although the last one you linked was my "other choice")

Thnx :)

Most of the images look pretty noisy for 1600 ISO. I really like #2. #6 creeps me out, but I like it anyways. Think I would have made #5 B+W, but that's just me. 1 and 3 are boring, and I like the moment in 7.

@ René; about Yuko... Interaction is nice indeed, and I like his shadow. Besides that, I like this one better I think:

http://www.moonglade.net …0320_CrLx_0435_large.html (external link)

I can imagine why you didn't pick the guy alone, indeed "a bit" OOF.

According to the Exif some of the photos are 3200, which is indeed pretty noisy on a 1D2. And I can imagine why René has chosen to use 3200...

# 4 is my favorite although I would have cropped 4x5 aspect to eliminate some of the dark space up top. Excellent color on that one. #'s 2 and 3 have a cool feel to them. I like that feel.

As for the blocked up reds...it happens when the lighting is like that. Not much one can do. Seems Dwight needs to get out into the trenches occasionally.

Oh, I agree, but you see, Rene has made a career out of seeking out "blockage" in other people's images so he should stand ready to be held to the question himself! But let me also be the first to admit that Rene's constant onslaught against color mismanagement has dramatically improved the quality of my images, even without visiting the trenches.
