Looks like a new D60 with a swivel screen and I'm assuming 720p video. Looks pretty legit to me.

But for the target audience I suspect the screen will be a winning feature for no reason other than it's familiar to many with a P&S. The rumour had been a new D400 some time soon, but the D300 is stiill more than competitive with everything below the 5D mk II. https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1203740

I don't think that most pros are going to change because of the consumer features, but it is disturbing that Canon has clearly become a follower. It seems that last few major advancements have come from other manufacturers and Canon is playing catch up. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

It says 720p, so maybe that is why Canon put in the crippled 1080p 20fps mode. Then you can pick between the screen on te Nikon or the 1080p mode on the Canon. I believe that the crippled 1080 is because the sensor only has two data buses, not 4 as the 50D has. It's a data throughput issue. tkbslc wrote in post #7679236 Honestly, I'm more insterested to see what Nikon will do with the D400 that was breifly mentioned on that page. That is the level of camera where Canon has a big hole. I agree, The 50D is just too close to the xxxD series and way too far from the 1D series. The Nikon xxxD series seems to be a great in between camera and they have done much better servising the enthusiest. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

It's a data throughput issue. I think that is probably the technical reason, but then why include it at all if they can't do 30fps at least? That is why I think it is just marketing. They can put 1080 on the box so it looks good next to Nikon's competitor camera. I agree, The 50D is just too close to the xxxD series and way too far from the 1D series. I kept hearing rumors of a 7D crop cam with more "pro" features so let's hope it pans out. Taylor

If this turns out to be true, all the Canonites that have been speculating about the next new fantasy body and wanted an articulating screen, will be moaning about how useless a feature it is because Nikon had it first. - Duncan
