Hi,

Not sure if there is a post already, but i am getting into photography very much, shooting with 1000d just to learn on for now...

Have decided after 8 months of shooting want to upgrade my lenses.
I am looking for a "multi purpose" lens that i can chuck on the camera and leave unless i am aiming a a specific shot...

Cheers all!!!

What is your budget?

I should say, get a 24-105. As a multi purpose, it's amazing!

I have a Sigma 18-50 F2.8 EX Macro.

Here are a couple of samples.

I think it is an excellent replacement for the kit lens.

I bought the Tamron when i upgraded my XSi kit lens. Excellent lens and i got it at a really good price so i couldn't turn it down. Haven't mounted my kit lens since i've had the Tamron.

Another big thumbs up for the Tamron 17-50 here too. Not without it's minor niggles, ie slightly noisy AF motor that is slower than HSM or USM, but all in all the Tamron is some of the best money I've ever spent. It's incredibly sharp, even at f2.8.

I have the same question. I have a nifty fifty and a 70-200 f/4L and the awful kit lens. I was thinking the 24-70L. Opinions? I really like the L series and would like to confine myself to L series lenses.

Thanks!

Yeah that's really my only gripe with the lens as well, the AF is quite noisy. But this can easily be overlooked with its sharp optics and good IQ wide open.

If 24mm is wide enough for you at the wide end then i say go for it. For me 24mm wouldn't be wide enough so it's a lens i wouldn't purchase since i shoot with an XSi. Now if i went full frame i would definitely consider purchasing it.

Yeah, but I think I'll never be able to justify spending that kind of money for glass. :)

I would have suggested either a 60mm prime macro. You can try to shoot with a larger aperture lens, excellent IQ and macro shot on top.

Still learning
