I currently use my 85mm for indoor sports and I'm considering purchasing the 135mm f2 prime.

Has anyone used the 135mm for baseball or football with a tc 1.4x?

I don't want to purchase a zoom unless it's necessary.

Thx for any examples or ideas!

I worked a track meet with a fulltime pro that had an amazing background in photography, he told me to not bother with the 135, that he always had issues with that specific model...I havent tried it, but I trust his opinion...

I've not previously read anything negative about the 135 f2 and I love mine. It's not my primary walk around lens but it's been great for indoor sports and with the 1.4tc it has decent range for outdoor sports. I think baseball would be no problem but football you would probably need sideline access or it might be a bit short for close up action shots.

Keep in mind that the tc makes the 135+tc combo f2.8 so it's not going to be faster than the 70-200 f2.8. The autofocus is a bit slower with the 1.4tc too - which may affect your decision if you're shooting under the lights instead of the daylight.

I don't have the 70-200 to post an image comparison but maybe someone could - you might search the ef lenses forum for something.

Hope that helps!
