Yes, my 40D + 500mm combo still works, just testing out some backup gear!

the images are a bit noisy at ISO200, but this seems acceptable for small prints, what do you guys think?

Well, it's definetly noisy at iso200? If it were me, I'd stay Canon all the way. IMHO

Thanks, do you have experience with the Canon Superzooms for comparison?

Hi Dave,

We use the Canon S3-IS and S5-IS (both superceded now, but probably available on ebay). I think you'll find any similar small-sensor P&S superzooms will get quite noisy at ISO200 and above.

But we do get nice photos from them.
Lots of samples below.

Hi Kenn -

I know those have both proven to be great little cameras. How do you think the ISO 200 matches up with what I posted?

If only I could get close to bluebirds like you for some real comparisons ;)

I have the Olympus SP-570UZ 20x, I used it exclusively before I purchased the 50D. It works well at ISO 64 & 100 in light conditions. I have shot at least 5,000 images with it. Plus the macro is quite good.

Thanks, I haven't tried the macro mode on it yet, but looking forward to it.
