Located on Oahu, HI. Shot with my Sigma 8mm Fisheye on a 40D during my daughter's field trip.

nice. I was there in 2000 and 2007. Got a job working for the Volcano observatory in 2000 and finally talked my mom and sister into a trip in 07. Hard to find a spot in Hawaii that isn't pretty. My favorites I think have to be taking the ultralight trip over the north shore and mountains near Dillingahm air field, watching the sunset from the top of Mauna Kea, and collecting lava samples from the Pu`u `O`o vent (not sure if I got that right)

The view from Haleakala was awesome as well - but I had damaged my camera and by the time I got a replacement - I missed the sunrise. Oh well - that leaves something for next time!

Sounds like you landed a great job there. Not too many people can experience what you did. Broken camera? Ugh!!

I'll be going to Haleakala this Friday but not for sunrise, then to Hana and hopefully get a sunrise shot from the cross on the hill (external link) up there on Easter morning.

it was a pretty sweet job. too bad it only lasted a couple of weeks - it was a school thing. Breaking the camera was totally my fault - the previous day I had been taking closeup pictures of sulfur crystals forming in some of the vents. looked at it the next day and couldn't figure out why the lens was so foggy. wpied wnd wpied it - dang thing actually looked pitted. then it dawned on me - I had stuck it in an atmosphere of concentrated sulfuric acid. DOH!

The road to Hana was quite the trip. Imagine a minivan full of 20 year olds oggling everything and screaming away with a driver that is scared of narrow roads.
