Apr 08, 2009 08:58 | #2 nice. I was there in 2000 and 2007. Got a job working for the Volcano observatory in 2000 and finally talked my mom and sister into a trip in 07. Hard to find a spot in Hawaii that isn't pretty. My favorites I think have to be taking the ultralight trip over the north shore and mountains near Dillingahm air field, watching the sunset from the top of Mauna Kea, and collecting lava samples from the Pu`u `O`o vent (not sure if I got that right) Gripped 80D,10-18 STM, 55-250 IS STM, 15-85 IS USM, 85 1.8, 10-400 II, 430 EX II

Oh well - that leaves something for next time! Sounds like you landed a great job there. Not too many people can experience what you did. Broken camera? Ugh!! Aloha,

Apr 08, 2009 14:25 | #6 it was a pretty sweet job. too bad it only lasted a couple of weeks - it was a school thing. Breaking the camera was totally my fault - the previous day I had been taking closeup pictures of sulfur crystals forming in some of the vents. looked at it the next day and couldn't figure out why the lens was so foggy. wpied wnd wpied it - dang thing actually looked pitted. then it dawned on me - I had stuck it in an atmosphere of concentrated sulfuric acid. DOH! Gripped 80D,10-18 STM, 55-250 IS STM, 15-85 IS USM, 85 1.8, 10-400 II, 430 EX II
