Hi all,

I'm not sure if anything can be done. Whilst working at a Industrial Estate I have come across a small pond which is on private land on the Estate. I noticed a pair of Reed Buntings flying in and out of the reeds.
To my dissmay I noticed an adjacent builders merchant tipping rubble and waste into the pond area.
On speaking to a couple of local people I found that the owner of the land has asked the builders merchant to fill in the pond with whatever they want.

I've emailed the RSPB a week ago, (heard nothing back yet) also the local council who are looking into it.

What a shame in these times of diminishing habitat.

This page (external link) has some info on the status of Reed Buntings in the UK. It also has an email address for one Andy Evans at the RSPB who is listed as a 'Lead Partner'. Might be worth emailing him directly.

Just need to say you have seen Great Crested Newts in the pond. That'll stop their nonsense for this year at least. Also get on to your local Wildlife Trust.

As for the RSPB - they are usually far too busy with their beloved Ospreys to bother about your Reed Buntings.
