Low Light -Theater Shoot

I recently shot a gang violence / Romeo and Juliet performance. It was inside a church with low lighting. I shot it with my 40D, 70-200mm 2.8 IS, and 24-105mm 4.0. This was my first time shooting in low light with the 40D. Most photos were with an ISO of 1600. I wasn't able to use any flash.

First three are nice. #1 a bit too blown though.
On #4, the bottom figure is too dark.
#5 is nice again.
On #6 I'd liked to have seen a bit more of the girls face.
#7: Cropped a bit too close at the bottom, while I'd crop out the bit of hand on the top left.
#8: Good moment, but the cap is covering too much IMO.

All images have too high black level IMO. (Shadows block up)
